Quickly and cheaply spruce up your two hand towels with just one fat quarter! I wanted to keep mine plain, so they’re actually kind of bland, but you could make some really cute ones as long as you’re not boring like me!
1 fat quarter
2 hand towels you want to make cuter
Step 1: Iron and square up your fat quarter. Then you’re going to want to measure the width of your towels, mine were 16″ and cut your short edge to be that width. Then cut the remaining fat quarter into 4 equal strips: mine ended up being 5 1/4″ x 16″
Step 2:All three steps are shown in the following picture. Repeat with all 4 strips.
First: Lay your piece right side down, fold over the edges on the long sides 1/4″ and iron flat.
Second: Take the strip and fold it in half hot dog style with right sides together. Really make sure that your long edges match up, this will be important when we sew them together. Sew along the two short edges with a 1/4″ seam and trim the corners.
Third: Turn the little pocket right side out, poke out the corners with something pointy and iron flat.
Step 4: Sew along that top edge, as close to the edge as you feel comfortable that you can catch both sides. I was able to use about a 1/16″ seam and had no problems.
